Aug 15, 2022 · Harbor Freight Bandlands APEX 5500lb winch install. I bought the SATV winch plate and HF's new APEX short drum winch. I thought the winch would be a fairly straightforward install but no project I ever take on goes smoothly. I couldn't get the winch to slide into place with the winch plate installed. Took the 4 bolts out and left the winch ... I got my harbor freight winch plate today and im pretty impressed to be honest, its 1/4" plate, i was expecting 3/16". im gonna weld it to my bumper and just use the holes in it to mount the bumper, i do think ill add a couple gussets to it before i get a winch though pics tonight after its welded on.
