Posted October 21, 2018. I have an argentavis saddle that is acting as a mobile smithy. It is an apprentice saddle. It only does this on one bird. I traded the apprentice saddle for a mastercraft saddle on 2 different birds and so far only one argy seems to act as a mobile smithy when wearing the apprentice saddle. While other flyers, like Griffins, were added later in the game, Argentavis has been there since launch in 2015. Some creatures are perfect for specific stages of ARK: Survival Evolved. But the Argentavis can be helpful before you can make a saddle and valuable long after you have access to “better” flyers.
