The cold snap definitely firmed up the ice and I’d say we have on average 10 plus inches all over the lake. Quite a few ridges out there, most are quiet at the moment, but with the snow they are forecasting that will change also. May 7, 2024 · We need about 6-8 more degrees for things to get going. This last Saturday was a barn burner though. Once we found the right depth it was game on. Everything was less than 10 feet of water and there were a lot of Pike but the Walleyes were willing as well. Had we not made a depth and location adjustment, we might have only had 2 or 3 Walleyes. Those two adjustments made all the different though and we were headed to the launch by 1:00. The water temperatures were in the 50’s, 54-57 degrees and we never hit 58, kinda cool but the fish were active. Over 5 feet of water but less than 10, however ...January 18th Fishing Report. Winter is starting to move along…We experienced some brutal weather last week which helped us gain a lot of ice. 12-20 inches is common in most places around the Devils Lake basin. Again, use extreme caution near culvert, bottle neck, bridge, and ridges as ice can vary greatly in these areas.Open Basin! Finding these fish and these bites are the most rewarding and surprising at the same time. Most of these areas are deep, and sometimes really deep, 30+ feet of water is pretty much required to be considered ‘open basin.
