It will idle fine in neutral, pick up and run at full throttle and hold itself when brought back into neutral. I tried increasing the idle with the idle stop screw, which didn ... Jul 30, 2018 · I have a 1994 Johnson 30 hp tiller electric start. I am trying to adjust the max timing stopper because when I got the outboard the stopper was adjusted 1/2 to 3/4 inch away from the edge of the timing plate.

Look on shop.evinrude.com, locate your motor, and go to the "cylinder/crankcase" page. Zoom in til you see the linkages well, and you will see reference numbers 80, 86, and 81.The screw is below the one that is the handle. The one with the handle is for idle adjustment. No you can do this with the prop on. You won't have to go up to full throttle about 2500-3000 rpms. Look at the second pic in the link I posted B & C are thre timing advance screw. I may attempt to adjust the idle next time i'm out and see what it does. The guy that got my motor running and rebuilt the carbs showed me a single screw on the starboard side that he said adjusts the idle. I'll post up any results.
