You need a 86 and later intake with the four center intake bolts that are angled different.Replace the TBI with a carb and try it before ditching the electronics. Leave everything plugged in the harness to satisfy the computer. Mount a TPS to the carb, a fuel pressure regulator and give it a try. Yes if you swap you'll need to change out the manifold they arent compatable. Personally I'd stick with the Holley TBI, that set-up is usually pretty good and trouble free.

I used edelbrock manifold #2111 you have to get a distributor that even fire the one I got was for an 81 229 v6 I think. They did make some 85 4.3's carbed so you can get that they are in the c10 trucks some cars and ...Look at an EVO, Eclipse, etc, making 500-700 on 8mm lines. Now crank the pressure upto 80psi and they'll be more than large enough. Run the stock pump (or higher pressure) to you're regulator and then run a 3/8-1/2 line from the regulator to your carb - no problem IMO. Then change the fuel pump out for something meant to give the 2-3 psi you will need at the carb. The original fuel pump should be pumping close to 22psi, way too much. It willl just flood the carb till gas comes out of your air filter in about 6 seconds.
